Heavily customizable. Moderately customizable. Lightly customizable. No customization needed Below are the voice prompts, in the order they appear in the Waze Voice Recorder. Heavily customizable Let your creative juices flow! These prompts aren't attached to directions so there's more room to get creative. Start of drive Waze will randomly choose a phrase from the versions below. 'All set. Let’s go'. 'We’re all set.
'Start driving'. 'Let’s get started - drive safe!' Let’s hit the road.' .
'You ready?. 'We’re ready to roll.

'In a quarter of a mile'. 'In half a mile'. 'In 1 mile'. 'In 200 meters'.

'Turn left'. 'Turn right'. 'Exit left'. 'Exit right'. 'Continue straight'. 'Make a U-turn'.
'At the roundabout'. 'Take the first exit'. 'Take the second exit'. 'Take the third exit'. 'Take the fourth exit'. 'Take the fifth exit'.
'Take the sixth exit'. 'Take the seventh exit' Moderately customizable Here, the message should be clearly stated first, followed by some customization. While it doesn’t have to be word for word, the original meaning must be clear to the driver. Reports. 'Police reported ahead'.
'Accident reported ahead'. 'Hazard reported ahead'. 'Heavy traffic reported ahead'. 'Red light camera reported ahead'. 'Speed trap reported ahead' Without customization 'And then' Heavily customizable This is when the driver makes a mistake on a route, or when there is a closure up ahead and the app has to reroute. 'Rerouting' Heavily customizable 'You've arrived at your destination'.
It's not what you say, it's how you say it. We have years of experience coaching the best voices. Here's a quick guide to help you create the best Waze voice on the planet. Plan Ahead - Start with planning what you'd like to say, when and how. Practice some versions and drive with your voice directions to get a feel for what works, and what needs work. #nextwazevoice - When you post your voice, add this hashtag (and any other hashtag) to so fans can easily find you when they search on social.
Location, location, location + Mic - Audio quality is super important. When you're recording, go into a small space with as little echo/reverb as possible. (We hear full closets make great recording studios.) Plus, if you have a mic to connect to your phone, that's even better. Keep it clear - Be sure to speak clearly and annunciate, so drivers are entertained, understand what you're saying and can still get to where they're going, (kind of the point right?). Gender-neutral is best - Keep your audience in mind when you address them. Be authentic - Stay true to your content style and your fans will look for any excuse to drive with your voice guiding the way.
It's all in the name - When you create a new voice, give it a name that will help your fans find it in the menu easily. Expiration - If you decide to delete a voice that you shared, it's a good idea to give your fans and subscribers a heads up before the voice is gone forever. It will give them some time to appreciate your voice, and help soften the blow when the time comes for the voice to be history. Ready to record?
Check out the script for Waze voice directions. Recording Can I add sound effects, additional voices, harmony? Whatever the mic picks up is fair game!
Remember though, there's a minimum level of clarity the directions need to maintain for drivers to be able to understand what you're saying (and where they should be going). Check out our recording tips to learn more. Can I record on a different device and upload audio files?
Sorry, but currently you'll need to record your voice with the Waze voice recorder. We recommend using a mic that connects to the phone for a more polished sound. How can I prepare in advance? Check out the full script with prompts and customization levels.
Sharing How does sharing work? When your voice is ready for the world, you can tap the 'Share' icon. This will generate a install link that you can post to all your subscribers. When subscribers tap your install link, it will automatically open the Waze app and they'll be able to install the voice with just one tap.
Once you post your link publicly, anyone with the link can share it onward. What about folks who don't have the Waze app?
Those who tap the link but don't have Waze will be given the option to install the Waze app for their Android or iPhone. Once Waze is installed, they'll need to tap your install link again to install your voice recording. What if I want to delete my voice after I've shared it? Deleting a recorded or shared voice is easy. In the Waze app, select your voice and tap the delete button.
After confirming, your voice will be deleted everywhere and all the people who ever installed it will be unable to drive with it anymore. This flexibility is especially useful if you have any regrets on an existing voice, or if you want to make voices that are 'limited edition.' How long does it take for the voice to be deleted?
Almost immediately (conditional on internet connection and other technical stuff). If you decide to delete a voice, we recommend you give your subscribers a heads up, since some may be heart-broken disappointed, and advance notice will help to soften the blow. Getting your voice to your fans How can subscribers get my Waze Voice?

You have Waze. You use Waze. You love Waze. The Google-owned traffic app offers advantages over the standard, built-in navigation apps on your Android or iOS device, but it can be difficult to trigger unless you open the app directly. When you ask for directions or click on a link to a location on an Android phone, Google Maps pops up. When you do the same on an iPhone, Apple Maps usually takes the wheel. You can change your default navigation app to Waze, though your results will vary based on how and where you trigger the driving directions.
On an Android device, you can ask for directions by speaking to Google Assistant or by clicking on an address in a browser, such as Chrome. You can change the default navigation to Waze if you go through Google Assistant for your directions. However, if you ask for directions or tap on a link in your browser, you may still be stuck with Google Maps, or just not receive an option to use Waze. So if you want to use the app, your best bet is to grab directions through Google Assistant. On an iPhone, your options are more limited; Apple Maps wants to be in control.
If you tap on a link in a browser, Google Maps will run internally, but you can change the default to Waze if you go through Google's search app instead. Once you're behind the wheel, did you know you can get driving directions spoken in your own voice? Below, I'll cover the process on an iPhone, but the steps are similar for Android phones, just with some visual differences. If you're a fellow fan of Waze, I assume you already have it on your phone. If not, download it from or from. What if you've already set Google Maps as the default? The process for making Waze your new default app varies slightly depending on your version of Android.
On Android 4.0 to 6.0, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap on the Settings icon. In Settings, tap on the entry for Apps or Applications. If necessary, tap on the entry for Application Manager.
Swipe down the screen to see all apps and tap on the one for Maps. Swipe down the screen for Maps and tap on the button to Clear Defaults. Setting Waze as the default navigation app on Android 6.0 or higher is a bit different. Open Settings Apps. Swipe down the All Apps screen and tap on the entry for Waze. Tap on the option to Open by default. Tap on Open supported links and change the setting to Open in this app.
The limitations are the same as with prior versions of Android. Ask for directions and tap on an address using Google Assistant, and Waze pops up. Grab an address in Chrome or another browser, and Google Maps still takes over.
If you're really crazy about Waze and don't need or want Google Maps at all, another option is to disable Google Maps. The upside is that this maneuver results in a more universal change, making Waze the default navigation app in more situations than just getting directions through Google Assistant. The downside is that this action may upset some apps that hook into Google Maps, but you can always re-enable Maps down the line if you bump into any problems or change your mind. To do this, open Settings Apps. Swipe down the All Apps screen and tap on the entry for Maps. Tap on the Disable button. You're told that if you disable this app, other apps may no longer function as intended.
Tap on Disable App. You're asked if you want Android to replace this app with the factory version, which means the initial version that came with your device minus all the updates and any customizations since then.
Maps is uninstalled. There's no way to change the default navigation app in the current version of iOS. If you click on a link in Safari, Google Maps opens internally in the browser. If you ask Siri for directions, Apple Maps launches.
You can't even delete the app because Siri needs it to serve up directions. What you can do is use a different app in order to coax Waze into taking over. Download the if you don't already have it. Open the app and tap on the Settings icon in the upper-left corner. Tap on Google app settings.
At the top of the Google app settings screen, notice the section for Maps. Here you can change the default maps app to Waze.
Tap on Waze and then tap on Done. Now whenever you tap on a location in the Google app, Waze will pop up to steer you to your destination.
